Sheep or Shepherd?

When we occupy our minds

with the opinions of others,

we neglect what our heart finds

is special from our brothers.

A solo dance with happiness—

looking around the room

you forget that dancing is

letting go of any gloom.

Your eyes are the only eyes—

that you should seek to please.

Do not hide what is your prize,

dare to bumble among bees.

Let your conscience be your guide,

it knows right from wrong;

you don’t need them to decide

what you knew all along.

When you feel pressure just remember—

we all have an expiration,

don’t let your fire sink to ember

for fear of public tribulation.

Great bounties you will reap

when you follow your own word;

Don’t listen to the sheep,

but be the shepherd.
