When you numb,

you numb not only—

the bad,

but also—

the good.

Life becomes dull.

Grass, alcohol,

and the others,

none of it works,

I’ve tried.

Pain seems to fade,

but is replaced

by something worse,

a lack of joy.

For, we cannot have one

without the other.

Less of one

is less of both.

We come to him

to numb the pain—

but what he does is—

numb everything.

Life becomes bland—

the soul malnourished,

for it demands

rain and sun to flourish.
